2020-2021 Season Wrap-up & Congratulations

The Rinks and Great Park Ice develop championship skaters at ALL levels of competition as proven by this year’s amazing World, World Team Trophy, and US National results. Congratulations to our skaters for their many accomplishments and hard-earned medals across ALL US National Divisions and beyond – Juvenile, Intermediate, Novice, Junior and Senior US Nationals - and the 2021 World Championships!

2021 Worlds & World Team Trophy

Congratulations again to Nathan Chen for capturing his third-consecutive World Championship Title (the second man to accomplish this feat in the last 20 years!) and congratulations to our 2021 World Competitors: Alexa Knierim, Brandon Frazier, and Michal Brezina!

An additional congratulations to our skaters at  World Team Trophy in Osaka, Japan! Great Park’s Nathan Chen won both the Short Program and Free Skate in the Men’s event and Great Park’s Alexa Knierim & Brandon Frazier placed 4th in the Short Program and 2nd in the Free Skate in the Pairs event. Team USA earned the Combined Silver Medal, behind Team Russia (1st), with Team Japan 3rd, Team Italy 4th, Team France 5th, and Team Canada 6th

SKATERS REPRESENTING THE RINKS AND GREAT PARK ICE WIN FOUR MEDALS AT U.S. FIGURE SKATING CHAMPIONSHIP

IRVINE, Calif. – The Irvine Ice Foundation today announced that skaters representing The Rinks and Great Park Ice won two gold medals and four combined medals at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships this week in Las Vegas at Orleans Arena. The four medals represented the most by a single skating program in the country. Fifteen skaters (equaling the most in the country) represented The Rinks and Great Park Ice at the national championship.

The Rinks and Great Park Ice are thrilled to congratulate our FOUR US Novice National Medalists at the 2021 US Championship Series!  Congratulations to Soho Lee (Novice Ladies Silver), Nicole Park (Novice Ladies Bronze), Sonia Baram & Blake Edwards (Novice Pairs Silver), and Ellie Korytek & Allan Fisher (Novice Pairs Bronze)!!

Juvenile & Intermediate U.S. Championships

Our Juvenile and Intermediate skaters also took the US Championship Series by storm, capturing 50% of the top 10 US National placements for both the ‘10 & Under’ and ’11 to 13’ categories in the highly-competitive Juvenile – Intermediate combined ladies division.

The Rinks and Great Park Ice are thrilled to congratulate our TEN US Juvenile - Intermediate medalists: Elyce Lin-Gracey (1st: 11-13), Luana Stein (2nd: 11-13), Katie Shen (3rd: 11-13), Athena Huang (4th: 11-13), Annika Chao (3rd: 10 & under), Hanna Kim (4th: 10 & under), Carter Griffin (3rd: Boys 14 plus), Alyssa Korytek & Carter Griffin (3rd: Pairs), and Celine Chen & Nathan Chen (2nd: Juvenile Dance).

US National High Performance Development Team Qualifiers

Congratulations to all of our skaters on demonstrating resilience, excellence, and sportsmanship this season. The future looks bright at The Rinks and Great Park Ice with US National Medals across ALL levels of development - including Senior, Junior, Novice and now Intermediate and Juvenile!

*Due to the pandemic, the US Championships were divided into three segments by level for the 2020-2021 season.  

  • The first segment (for Junior and Senior skaters) was held Jan 11 – 21, 2021. The Rinks and Great Park Ice earned the MOST Senior Medals in the entire country at the 2021 US Championships (Men’s Gold, Men’s Pewter, Pairs Gold, & Pairs Silver) as well as the Junior Ladies Silver.  
  • The second segment (Novice division) was held through Feb 14 with results being released late February. The Rinks and Great Park Ice earned 4 US medals (2 in ladies and 2 in pairs) as well as captured 4 of the top 10 placements in Ladies (2nd, 3rd, 7th, and 8th), 2 of the top 10 Placements in Men (5th and 8th), and 2 in Pairs (2nd and 3rd).  
  • The third segment (Juvenile and Intermediate combined) was held through March 14 with results being released late March. This year, the Juvenile and Intermediate entries were combined into one pool then separated for evaluation into three age brackets for girls (10 & under, 11-13, and 14 & over) and two age bracket for boys (13 & under and 14 & over). The Rinks and Great Park Ice earned an impressive 10 US medals in ladies, men, pairs and dance, as well as captured 50% of the top 10 US placements in ‘ladies 11-13’ and ‘ladies 10 and under.’
